When you "come to life" you will tell about that person's life including birth, early childhood, major accomplishments, location in Indiana, interesting facts about their life, and death.
Process:
- Record important information about your famous Hoosier in your research packet.
- Write a 5 paragraph report.
- Write out your speech on index cards. Practice your speech enough times to memorize the facts.
- Find interesting props and/or articles of clothing to bring your character to life.
- Create a display board that includes a timeline, 5 interesting facts, pictures, and map of Indiana. The timeline, facts, and map of Indiana are in the research packet.
Research & Report Guide:
- You will print out several online articles and highlight the important information needed to fill out your research graphic organizer. (short bullet point facts --no sentences on the graphic organizer)
- Next, you will take the information from the graphic organizer, and put them into your own sentences. The sentences will be written in your Writer's Workshop notebook according to topic/area of the famous person’s life. One topic per paragraph. At least 5 paragraphs total for the final report.
- Finally, you will write or type your 5 paragraph research report.
- After your written report is finished, you will highlight 10 sentences that are the most important to tell about your person.
- You will use only one speech/note card to write your speech.
- This is a “Living Wax Museum." It is your job to bring your famous Hoosier to life by dressing in character and/or having props.
- After a visitor pushes your “BUTTON,” you will come to life, and tell the most important things you want everyone to know about him or her.
- This should be short like an info. commercial. No more than 10 sentences.
- As you decide what to include in your speech, use the following questions to guide you.
Questions and Connections to your famous Hoosier.
